Karuizawa Carving～軽井沢彫

In 1888 (Meiji 21), missionary Alexander Croft show built the villa for the first time in Karuizawa, followed by many foreign missionaries and diplomats having a villa, and the demand for furniture soared. In 1908 (Meiji 41), a store that manufactures and sells two sculpture furniture opened.
Initially invited craftmen of Nikko carving, began manufacturing sculpture furniture for foreign villas, then adopted the symbol of Japan Sakura sculpture, original design of cherry blossoms in full bloom and surrounding star hit gained popularity It has become widely accepted by Japanese people.
It has developed mainly around Western furniture such as table, chair, chair, chest of drawers, sideboard, mirror stand, bed, etc. We are continuing to challenge new efforts by focusing on improving traditional craft technique and designing of furniture.
